Partial or Total Knee Replacement for 85-yr-old Patient?

History: 85-yr-old patient on whom Partial Knee Replacement was performed by Dr. Amyn Rajani

Case: A lot of patients and doctors ask Dr. Amyn Rajani why Partial Knee Replacement instead of Total Knee Replacement for elderly. Look at the lateral cartilage of the 85-yr-old operated patient. It’s absolutely pristine then why replace it then. Also when at this age recovery from Total Knee Replacement would take time, results of Partial Knee Replacement are extraordinary. A lot of people had advised this patient a TKR looking at his age, Dr. Rajani felt that you don’t need to look at the age and pathology.  Doctor performed a successful Partial Knee Replacement Surgery/ Unicondylar Knee Replacement on the patient the other day and he walked next day and today patient is pain- free and will be discharged in a day’s time.
